Role: Clinical Content Specialist

Team: Vitalware Content

Location: US Remote
Travel: none anticipated

The Clinical Content Specialist will be responsible for addition and maintenance of the data sources in the Vitalware by HealthCatalyst product. The timely update of coding, reimbursement and regulatory information is used by to help healthcare systems identify revenue opportunities, improve profitability, and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.

What you'll own in this role:

  • Monitors various websites and other data sources and validates receipt of all available data required to meet client expectations. Examples include but are not limited to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) websites for new and updated Transmittals, MLN Matters® articles, Proposed and Final Rules, and other proprietary information.
  • Reviews websites of device manufacturers to add or update the Device Dataset with catalog numbers, product numbers, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes, Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) and United Nations Standard Products and Services Code (UNSPSC) codes.
  • Initiates testing scenarios, evaluates the results and takes necessary action to resolve discrepancies or ambiguities, as needed.
  • Seeks guidance from immediate manager or team members as necessary to ensure proper application of HCPCS, GTIN or UNSPSC codes.
  • Collaborates with other team members to identify opportunities for improving overall Departmental performance.
  • Participates in continuing education activities to maintain and advance professional skill set.
  • Adheres to company-wide and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Respond to client queries within team guidelines.
  • Meet guidelines to ensure content is uploaded and available as required for each type of content.

What you'll bring to this role:

  • Ability to read and write.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer and keyboard skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Understands the importance of accuracy.
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytic skills.
  • Willing to research data that may be unfamiliar to ensure content and any assigned codes are accurate.
  • Able to work independently and address objectives without direct supervision.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, i.e., able to handle and resolve issues or objections diplomatically and respectfully.
  • Flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced working environment

Nice to Have Soft & Technical Skills

  • Current coding certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) preferred

Relevant Experience & Education

  • Required: GED equivalent of high-school diploma.
  • Preferred: High-school diploma and evidence of periodic continuing education since graduation
  • Required: 1-2 years working in an office environment performing duties similar in nature to those of this position.
  • Preferred: 3+ years working in an office environment performing duties similar in nature to those of this position.

Information Security and Compliance Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with training directives required by the organization pertaining to Information Security, Acceptable Use Policy and HIPAA Privacy and Security.
  • Adhere to and comply with the organizations Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Safeguard information system assets by identifying and reporting potential and actual security events to the organizations Security and Compliance Officers.
