About Vital

We’re on a mission to build beautiful and intelligent software for providers and patients.

Job Description

We’re looking for Senior Interface Engineers to join our remote-first team. This is a full time position. As a remote-first company, the successful candidate can be based anywhere in the US. As an Interface Engineer, you'll work on building connections and consuming data from our customers, via our Rhapsody Integration Engine. You'll configure internal systems using a variety of high-level programming languages, as needed.

🛠️ Vital builds software for care teams & patients, with a focus on the Emergency Room (ER) experience. We use AI/ML to transform the care experience, increase patient & staff satisfaction, and increase revenue for our clients.

💡 We provide hospitals with a modern UI and AI layer, which we deploy with our seamless implementation process.

🏥 There are more than 140 million visits to the ER every year in the US. Our mission is to improve the healthcare experience for these patients.

Vital + Integration

Integration at Vital designs, builds, and maintains the data integration feeds between health systems, partners, and Vital to power our products and services that deliver real value to our clients.
As healthcare data experts, our interface engineers are responsible for providing our data platform with the necessary context surrounding the visit data, ensuring that each message received by our backend is truly stateless and provides the complete view of the patient’s visit and status.
Data is very important to us. Our core products and insights are backed by our data feeds, so reliability and high availability for these feeds is critical. We make data-driven decisions to improve the quality of the feeds, as well as improving the context those feeds provide on the patient’s visit.
Due to the criticality of the data feeds, changes are deployed only through rigorous process, with testing and peer-review mandatory. We prefer to catch potential issues as early as possible, so we continually invest in our integration tooling.
Work is prioritized using a Kanban approach (we tend away from fixed length sprints), and we constantly improve our approach & methodology as needed.
    Our team has adopted

as our preferred form of working together. We eschew unnecessary meetings, write documentation, draft idea documents, and utilize the Slack “Do Not Disturb” functionality.

Requirements

We’re looking for healthcare-focused interface engineers that can hit the ground running, working across our integration tech stack. You’ll need to be comfortable with HL7 (an understanding of FHIR is valuable, but not required), healthcare systems, data pipelines, and common integration engines. Experience with multiple integration engines, such as NextGen Connect, Lyniate Rhapsody, and CorePoint would be helpful.
Healthcare integration encompasses a wide range of skills. An understanding of networking and data communication protocols (i.e. VPN, MLLP, RESTful), healthcare data standards (i.e. HL7v2, HL7v3, FHIR, CDA), data analysis (i.e. SQL), and software development concepts would be highly beneficial.
We’re looking for great interface engineers. A great engineer doesn’t need to necessarily have experience with technologies we use, we can teach that. Curiosity and drive are important, as every day you’ll constantly be improving and learning.
Some work experience from previous roles is required. We’re looking for interface engineers that have had the highs and lows of success and failure. Failures are often full of good lessons, and we want you to bring those lessons to Vital.
This role requires canny and innovative technical design and execution. A strong mathematical foundation is important, along with a healthcare background. A university, polytechnic, or college degree is a good indication but we are flexible for a candidate with strong fundamental knowledge.
Communication is important, especially with a remote-first team. You need to be proficient in English, both written and verbal.
